Herdsmen: Our forefathers stopped them in 1804, we are not afraid – Samuel Ortom

The Governor of Benue State has stated that he is not afraid to fight because his forefathers in 1804 defeated the Fulanis from taking over the state.

Ortom stated this while speaking with BBC Pidgin at the Benue People’s House, Makurdi, on Wednesday, 24.

He said the fulani Herdsmen aren't coming to Benue State to graze their cattle but to take over the land and enslave its people.

"They want to take over Benue and make us slaves. That is what they have been trying since the days of our forefathers.

"Our forefathers stopped them in 1804, they cannot take over our land.

"They are not coming to Benue to graze cattle, they are only using that as a way to gain access into the state.

"God opened my eyes to understand their intentions.

"I cannot be intimidated because no one can kill me, my life is in the hands of God Almighty because I know that I am doing the right thing."

G7 Countries pledge to end fuel and diesel consumption by 2030

The group of G7 countries have agreed on a plan to end reliance on fuel and diesel-powered cars by 2030. As part of a comprehensive Green Belt and Road Initiative aimed at providing developing countries with billions of dollars in aids and investments required to curb carbon emissions, the G7 countries also see this initiative as an alternative to China’s belt and road initiative which China has promoted in Africa and developing countries.
