Myanmar Military Coup: Police kill nine in Myanmar Protest

At least 9 protesters have been killed by Myanmar security forces after opening fire on them in order to disperse the protest.

This is coming as a resolve of the protesters to stamp out military rule in the country following the ousting of the elected government of Aung San Suu Kyi in a coup on February 1

According to witnesses and media reports the security forces marched towards the protesters and fired tear gas, marched again and used stun grenades.

In what appears to be well planned, they didn’t spray the protesters with water cannon or warning to disperse but instead just fired their guns.

In Myingyan, One teenage boy was killed but the heaviest toll was in another central town, Monywa, where five people – four men and one woman – were killed, said Ko Thit Sar, Editor of the Monywa Gazette.

“We’ve confirmed with family members and doctors; five people have been killed,” he said.

“At least 30 people are wounded, some still unconscious.”

Two people were killed in the country’s second-biggest city Mandalay, a witness and media reports said, and one person was killed when police opened fire in the main city of Yangon, a witness there said.

At least 30 people have been killed since the coup but Suu Kyi has been held incommunicado.
