Christian-Muslim marriages should be encouraged to avoid Nigeria's break-up - Lai Mohammed
The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed says inorder to avoid Nigeria's break-up, inter- tribal marriages should be encouraged.
He stated this in Abuja while fielding questions at a News Agency of Nigeria flagship interview programme, NANForum, stating that intermarriage was one of the recommendations made during the Kaduna town hall meeting on National Security.
He also revealed that under the Nigeria's constitution, Article 15, 3c has a provision encouraging Nigerians to intermarry.
He said, "Christians are encouraged to marry Muslims, Itsekiri should marry Hausa, Yoruba should marry Igbo, when you have that kind of intermarriage, it becomes more difficult to break the country."
Through the Ministry of Information, the federal government had convened the national security town hall meeting on April 8, with the theme ‘Setting Benchmarks for Enhanced Security and National Unity in Nigeria.'
