Lagos Police Command commends officers for rejecting N500,000 bribe

The Lagos State police have commended some of its officers for their refusal to accept bribe of N500,000 offered to them by suspected criminal.

The Lagos State Police Spokesperson, Muyiwa Adejobi, in a statement on Tuesday said the suspects were arrested with stolen items from a construction company.

According to the spokesperson, the police attached to Area E Command at Festac had arrested 5 men with construction materials belonging to China Construction Engineering Company at midnight on Sunday.

He said the suspects Lawal Saheed, 40; Taofeek Adenigba, 43; Ope Olowolayemo, 28; Azeez Jamie, 41; and Omotayo Adewale, 34. stoled some pieces of 25mm iron rods, one Nozzle, one gas cylinder and Ford Bus with Reg. No. FST 697 XZ.

He said, "The Police operatives attached to Area E Command, Festac Lagos State, on 11th April, 2021, at about 3am, accosted five (5) suspects in a Ford Bus with Reg. Number FST 679 XZ, with some 25mm iron rods, property of China Construction Engineering Company (CCEC) between Volks Bus Stop and Iyana Iba, Lagos State.

"The suspects, when arrested by the police operatives, were alleged to have offered a bribe of Five Hundred Thousand only (#500,000) to the police operatives who rejected the offer and went ahead to arrest them with the stolen Iron rods."

G7 Countries pledge to end fuel and diesel consumption by 2030

The group of G7 countries have agreed on a plan to end reliance on fuel and diesel-powered cars by 2030. As part of a comprehensive Green Belt and Road Initiative aimed at providing developing countries with billions of dollars in aids and investments required to curb carbon emissions, the G7 countries also see this initiative as an alternative to China’s belt and road initiative which China has promoted in Africa and developing countries.
